Excellent news has been released for job hunters in and around Glasgow. Facilities management contractor Cordia has announced that there will be 350 catering roles, for which recruitment drives have already begun. The roles will include front of house and back of house staff, so will, therefore, include cooks, chefs, waiters, drinks and food servers.

The venues

The European Championship Games will take place over 11 days from the 2 – 12th August, 2018. The roles will apply to positions in the seven venues across the city which will be hosting the games. Each of these venues will need catering support as food will be on sale at all of them. The venues include, among others, the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Scotstoun Sports Campus, the Knightswood Park BMX track and the Cathkin Braes Mountain Bike Trails.

Those interested in the roles can register interest now via Cordia’s casual worker database, whilst the organisers get to work on kitting out venues with everything they need. From a new oven to a new display fridge counter like those sold at https://www.fridgefreezerdirect.co.uk/serve-over-counters, each venue will need some investment ahead of the games in order to be able to cater to the sheer numbers expected next summer in Glasgow.

Great opportunity

These casual vacancies are a great opportunity for those looking for training or experience within the industry. This will include newly qualified catering students as well as those looking for long-term work in the hospitality industry but currently have no experience. Working at the 2018 Glasgow European Championships will be a welcome addition to any CV. The roles will all pay the Glasgow living wage.

Hundreds of thousands of spectators are expected to descend on Glasgow for the games, as are hundreds of world-class athletes, making the event one of the most prestigious sporting events to take place in the city in recent years. These roles are an excellent opportunity for 350 lucky applicants, who will be able to add value to their career history.
