Our day to day activities at homes and industries come with a variety of repercussions. Air pollution is one of the most disturbing problems we have. Air pollutants will be like dust, Fungal spores, viruses and smoke. Failure to eliminate the pollutants from the air lead to adverse effects like; diseases of the breathing system and damage to the layer in the atmosphere called O-Zone layer.
Air purifiers are devices made to remove contaminants from the air we breathe. Among the people that benefit most from using air purifiers are people with diseases like Asthma or allergies. Air with pollutants may worsen the health of these people. Factories releasing dust or smoke have air purifiers made for them too. This makes working in these industries possible and safe.
Air purifiers have been known to exist since the nineteenth century. The efficiency of the cleaners back then was low. Technological advancements have seen tremendous improvement made on the working of the purifiers. They also come in different sizes for both homes and industries. Complexity of an air purifier depends on the target contaminants and the extent of pollution. The working mechanisms of the air purifiers is what we will focus on in this discussion.
Prior to any air purifier purchase, one needs to consider three things Consumers are attracted to the air cleaners based on these three things. The amount of noise released by the air purifier is the first thing one considers. However effective an air purifier may be, loud noise is very uncomfortable.
Another thing to consider is how frequent the purifier needs replacement of parts. Consider at last, the power intake of the air cleaner both while in use or on idle mode.
Purifiers using heat to clean the air are called thermo air cleaners. Working mechanism involves heating air passing through them. Before passing out, air contaminants like bacteria, viruses or fungi are killed in the purifier. Before releasing air to the atmosphere, it is cooled slightly. Dust particles settle down during cooling before air is released.
Ultraviolet based air purifiers are the other types of air purifiers. These will have ultraviolet rays in their systems. Air is freed from contaminants by subjecting the contaminants to rays that make them inert. Though not retained in the filter, the contaminants are released but in an inactive state thereby pausing no danger.
We also have another type of air cleaners called the High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance (HEPA) air purifiers. Materials to be eliminated are trapped within the purifier. It is mostly used to clean air contaminated by physical contaminants like dust. The cleaner traps any physical material in the air within itself. Depending on the amount of contaminants in the air this filters requires replacement of parts. Other purifiers can be used in conjunction with this air cleaner.
Lastly, the other common type of air purifier is the activated carbon air cleaner. Its working applies adsorption to clean air. Volatile materials are trapped and converted into solid matter. The purifiers can also be used in collaboration with the HEPA air filter.
